10th YPFDJ Conference, 1st Hidri Games

On Thursday Aug. 28th 2014, Eritrean youth from all over North America and Europe came to attend YPFDJ's 10th annual conference in Washington, DC. The weekend was filled with workshops and seminars relating to culture and identity, issues prevalent in the global community, and college/professional preparation to just name a few. Another powerful component this annual conference provides for its participants is the opportunity to network and cultivate relationships with Eritreans from across the globe. It was amazing seeing how Hidri has grown in different parts of North America and a pleasure to meet these youth!

This year, we held the very 1st Hidri Games. Districts were established, tributes were selected, and obstacles were challenging. The obstacles that particpants had to overcome tested their Bitsaynet (camaraderie), Tewfiynet (Sacrifice), and Tsewarnet (tolerance)--the three essential values that are required to ensure we are building a strong, conscious, and patriotic youth that can play leadership roles in their communities.
